Joaquim's obituary

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, partner, brother and dear friend, Joaquim Goncalves on June 26th, 2023. After a brief battle with cancer, he passed away at his farm in Pitt Meadows, BC surrounded by his adoring family.

Joaquim was known as Jack, King, Dad, Brother, Tio and Grandpa to his beloved friends and family. He was born on July 9th 1944, in Lindoso, Portugal and was the youngest brother to his four siblings Manuel (Rosa), Rodrigo (Deolinda), Joao (Maria) and Irene (Jose).  As a young teenager, he left Portugal to work in France with hopes and dreams of endless possibility.  He made his way to Vancouver as a handsome, charismatic young man, full of ambition. He settled in Pitt Meadows to raise a family with his former wife Eduarda (Silva). He was a visionary, an entrepreneur and provided everything for his family. He showed that hard work, dedication and love would always prevail.

He was known for his generous ways, boisterous laugh, smile and treating anyone he met like family.  He lived his life with passion and was always the life of the party. He was known as a joker, and always had an entertaining story to share.  He loved hosting friends and family gatherings with wonderful meals, homemade wine and laughter.  He loved soccer and everything Portugal. While he left Portugal at a young age, Portugal has always been in his heart.  He was fluent in many languages and self-taught in everything he accomplished. If you were lucky, you got to witness his love for playing the guitar or accordion.  He had this amazing ability to make everyone feel like his best friend.

His memory will be forever cherished and kept alive by his loving partner, Ligia Coimbra; children Anita Douglas (Sean), Jackie Sharpe (Derek), Paul Goncalves (Timea), Kelly Holtz (Kyle); his 6 cherished grandchildren Olivia, Greyson, Harrison, Reid, Jackson and Amelia.

We hold him and our cherished memories in our hearts with love forever. In lieu of flowers, please raise a toast to the friendship and love you shared with him. He lived and loved deeply and asks you to continue to do the same. He will be remembered as forever young.

A Celebration of Life will be held August 12th at 1pm Albion Community Centre, Maple Ridge, BC
