It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joanne Barbara Pooley, who left us suddenly at the age of 73. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Joanne was well known for her feisty spirit, love for animals and the ocean, her quick wit and dry sense of humor.

For 35 years, she dedicated herself to nursing, providing compassionate care to marginalized individuals. Joanne's ability to identify and understand the damaged and misunderstood allowed her to create a safe and trusting environment where individuals felt valued and heard. Her life and career reflect a powerful narrative of empathy, resilience, and commitment to compassionate care, demonstrating that personal struggles can lead to profound connections and impactful healing in the lives of others.

She is survived by her two beloved children, Mathew and Erin, and her cherished grandchildren, Asha and Everett. Joanne is predeceased by the father of her children and dear friend Stephen, her brother David, and her parents Georgina and Robert. Joanne’s vibrant spirit and nurturing heart will be greatly missed.

Mathew and Erin will be organizing ceremonies to honour her life over the coming months and encourage anyone who wishes to be a part of this to reach out.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a local animal rescue organization in her honor.
