Our Mother was a wonderful person. She was the type of person that people in her life loved, and those who were not were curious about. Her work ethic was unparalleled, working 30 years at the VA hospital while carrying various part-time jobs. Some jobs included group health, department stores like J.C. Penny's, the Civic Center and others where she met lifelong friends and built an extended family. Our Mother raised three children in her home town of Gary, Indiana, before relocating to Madison, Wi, where she would welcome a daughter. As a single mother, she went above and beyond to provide for us and help others as she could. Joanne was the type of woman that did things for everyone, including less fortunate kids. She was always welcoming and kept everything from everyone. She taught us that it was ok to be different and that we all had something unique to offer the world.
