Joanne's obituary
Joanne Schutte Beyer (88), beloved daughter of C. Raymond and Irene Schutte, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Joanne was born in Chicago IL in 1936. Joanne married the love of her life, Joseph P. Beyer, on April 8, 1961, in Carmel, CA. Their partnership in life was a testament to enduring love, and together, they built a life filled with joy, hard work, and accomplishments. Joseph passed away after 54 years of marriage in 2015.
Joanne was the oldest of four children and was a great big sister to her three younger brothers. Joanne graduated from Watsonville High School (CA) in 1954 and from Colorado Women’s College (Denver) in 1956. Following graduation, Joanne embarked on an adventurous career as a flight attendant with United Airlines, where she cultivated her love of travel and exploration. Her passion for life and boundless energy led her and her husband to found Benchmark Computer Systems Inc., a highly successful computer business that thrived under their leadership for more 35 years.
Joanne had a special love for Hawaii, a place that brought her peace and happiness. However, her greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren: Kitridge Beyer Gaba, Catherine Beyer and Colin Beyer. Joanne was a devoted and loving mother to Garrett Beyer and Kersten Beyer Gaba, who will forever carry on her spirit of love and kindness.
Joanne was an amazing friend to everyone she met. Her social nature led her to be an avid and passionate bridge player, belonging to many groups where she formed lasting friendships and shared her love for the game. She was also a member of Twin Lakes Country Club for over 50 years.
Joanne is survived by her children, Garrett and Kersten, her grandchildren, Kitridge, Catherine and Colin, and her brothers, Robert Schutte and Richard Schutte. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Beyer and her brother Raymond Schutte. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her love of family, and her adventurous soul.
A private service will be held for close family followed by an open celebration of life at Twin Lakes Country Club from 1-4:00 PM on September 7. All of those who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman.
