Sr. Joanna Ruth Christiansen has passed to her reward early in the morning on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at her home in Auburn, WA. Joanna had been diagnosed with colon cancer in January 2022 which went into remission in December 2022. By 2024 it had come back and metastasized to her lungs and bones. Radiation and a clinical trial did not help her this time and she was told there was nothing more that could be done for her. She went on hospice in July, 2025.

Joanna spent the first 43 years of her life in the Chicago class and the last 20 years in the Seattle and Bellevue classes in Washington. She enjoyed working at the Dawn when she was young and, in later years, with the BSRC and the PBI, as well as proofreading. She was detail oriented and strove for excellence. She also loved traveling with her husband, David Christiansen to the Philippines on multiple occasions, to Australia, to Europe, and, after his passing, to India, just a year before her death. These were highlights for her and she loved the new brethren she met all around the world.
