JoAnn's obituary
JoAnn Pfenning, age 72, of Leesburg, FL, passed away on July 13, 2025. She was born on August 14, 1952, in Amsterdam, NY, to Jacqueline Nabors and Joseph Morreale. JoAnn was the oldest of five siblings and came from a large, close-knit family. She cherished her relationships with her aunts, uncles, and many cousins, always keeping in touch and making sure they felt loved.
She spent part of her early life in Connecticut and often visited her grandmother’s farm in upstate New York. Eventually, JoAnn relocated to Florida with her son, David Bogardus, where she advanced her career in Finance, working for Sherwin-Williams for 20 years and later retiring from Lynx.
While living in Orlando, JoAnn met the love of her life, Mark Pfenning. They were happily married for 35 years and shared a life full of adventure - traveling together and enjoying motorcycle rides.
JoAnn was a woman of many talents. Her creativity shined through her love for arts and crafts, and she was known for her delicious home-cooked meals and baking skills.
She is survived by her loving mother, Jacqueline Henriques Nabors; her devoted husband, Mark Pfenning of Leesburg, FL; her son, David Bogardus of Minneola, FL; her sister, Teresa Lagana and husband Aldo; her brothers: Joseph Morreale, Michael Morreale and wife Anna Marie, and Jacques Morreale and wife Nicole. JoAnn is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Anela Weaver and Valerie Rodriguez; nieces, Nicole Marie Nix-Martin and Alexa Morreale; nephew, Nicholas Morreale; and great-niece and nephew, Haley and Gavin Nix.
A celebration of JoAnn’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on August 14, 2025, at The Lakeside Church in Oakland, FL.
