Jospehine's obituary

Josephine (Jo Ann) Gagliano, December 07, 1936 – July 24, 2024 Modesto, California – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the Matriarch of our family who we called Mom, Grandma and GG, at the age of 87. Jo Ann was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Rose and Carlo Gagliano and came to California, by train, at the age of 9 with her Aunt Nina and Uncle Pete Baggese and has lived here in Modesto since that time. Jo Ann graduated from Modesto High School in 1954 and began working for J. Hungerford-Smith as a receptionist, which is now Sciabica’s California Olive Oil and Gourmet Foods, while attending college.Throughout the years, she worked many other jobs, sometimes two at a time that included the YMCA and owning her own thrift store, The Closet Shop, while raising her three children. She loved volunteering in her community and was a part of the Ladies Aid for Retarded Citizens (LARC), Priceless Treasures Thrift Store and belonged to the Red Hat Society, a social organization for women. Because she wasn’t ready to retire any time soon, she was the manager for a while, at the Mancini Senior Center ,serving lunches, decorating for holidays, playing cards and bingo. She was also a part of the Modesto Senior Citizens Center, again, playing bingo, having raffles and socializing with her friends. She enjoyed going with her friends to Black Oak, Chicken Ranch along with other Casino’s around the area.

She is survived by her older brother, John Gagliano of Modesto, CA; children, Rosanne Costa of Modesto, Carl Sean Faughn of South Dakota and Tracey (Brian) Buck of Modesto;   granddaughters,  Jennifer Ormonde, Cristina Larson, Cortney Bevis, and Emily Faughn;  grandsons, Justin Radabaugh, Cameron Radabaugh, and Braydon Spears; 11 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Andrade, Neveah Belvis, Noah Radabaugh, Izaleah Villafan, Mason Ormonde, Bentley Belvis, Micah Ormonde , Ava Radabaugh, Jaxson Crazatt, Luca Larson, and Crimson Radabaugh; two Nieces Leslie and Susan Gagliano,Nephew Paul Gagliano.

She was someone who gave whatever support she could and never gave up fighting the good fight.

May she rest in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A Rosary/Mass will be held at 10:00am on September 13, 2024 at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church located at 709 J. Street, Modesto. There will also be a Celebration of Life that will be held the followingday, September 14, 2024 from 11:00-1:00pm at the Modesto Senior Citizen’s Center located at 211 Bodem Street, Modesto.
