Joan's obituary
Joan M. Phillips (née Price), age 84, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Tempe, Arizona. Born on July 19, 1941, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, she lived a life marked by resilience, independence, and deep devotion to her family.
Joan was the daughter of William Henry Price II and Emma May Creglow. She was one of four sisters and is now reunited with her beloved siblings Gladys I. Haefele, Janice Ann Myers, and Shirley Holloway.
A woman of unwavering strength and determination, Joan was known for her hardworking spirit as both a mother and grandmother. She raised her family with love and dedication, always leading by example. Her children—David Phillips, Tammy Jay (with son-in-law Danny Baldwin Jr.), and Kimberly Merkley—carry forward her legacy of perseverance and care.
Joan found immense joy in the lives of her grandchildren: Dawn Cotton (Merkley), John Merkley, Jacob Merkley, Michelle Phillips, and Brandon Baldwin. Her love extended even further to her great-grandchildren: Julie Cotton, Daenerys Cotton, Kamilla Pantoja, Kooper Pantoja, and Kleopatrah Pantoja. She also held in loving memory her great-grandchild Kassius Pantoja, and son-in-law John Merkley.
Fiercely independent throughout her life, Joan took pride in doing things her own way. She cherished the simple pleasures—spending quiet moments with word search puzzles or coloring books, wrapped in a warm blanket while enjoying a favorite movie or television show. Her laughter was unforgettable: full-bodied and bright, it had the power to light up any room and lift the spirits of those around her.
Joan’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her strength of character and heartfelt laughter leave behind a lasting impression that will continue to inspire generations.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
