A doting mother, cherished sister, and extraordinary cook, Joan's absence will greatly be felt by all whose lives were touched by her.
Joan is survived by her loving children, Lisa Dowell (Jon), and Erik Mills (Donna), grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) Griffin, Jonathon Dowell, Nicole Dowell, Hannah Mills, Laia Mills, and her caring brother James Ray. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Bryan Ray, and dedicated husband, Norman B. Mills, with whom she shared a warm and close-knit life since they tied the knot in 1959. Their fondness for sitting on the deck, taking in the lake views with martinis in hand, is a testament to their love story, spanning 63 beautiful years.
Joan and Norm retired in 1993. Her children fondly recall her fantastic culinary skills, honed from a young age, with the kitchen bearing witness to numerous joyful family meals. She also held a professed admiration for art, notably oil painting, revealing her creativity and eye for beauty. Joan's nature was such that she also excelled in interior design, specifically her talent for flower arrangements, which added charm to their homes.
A woman who believed in love and strength, Joan's legacy reflects her deep devotion to her family and her strong work ethic. Her accomplishments, including a happy marriage, raising two children, and doting on five grandchildren, enriched her life and those around her. Despite her fondness for ice-cold water and dry martinis, it was her warm heart and caring personality that left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
As her family and friends grapple with her loss, they find solace in memories of Joan's strength and love. Her example, teachings, and love will survive in their hearts and actions, ensuring that Joan Mills' legacy continues to thrive through the values she held dear.
