Our family is terribly saddened to announce the passing of Joan "Joanie" Mayo. On July 02, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer she passed away peacefully in her daughters home. She was just 66 years old. Joan was born in Bay d’Espoir, Newfoundland on July 14,1956. She later moved to Ottawa, Ontario where she lived and raised her daughter. She is predeceased by her parents Pauline & Archie Mayo. She leaves to mourn with fond memories: her only daughter Patricia Mayo, her 5 grandchildren Tianna Mayo, Cameron Mayo, Lucas Mayo, Kareem Mayo, and Kamal Mayo, One great grandchild due October 2023 and 11 siblings.  

She was known to tell stories that reminded her of her home town and family in Newfoundland, the stories and memories of her childhood brought her so much joy. She loved her daughter and grandchildren with her whole being and often talked about how much Joy her grandchildren brought her. Joan was a Catholic woman who spent much of her time connecting with her religious practices and inviting as many people to share in the word of Christ as possible.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our lady of Fatima Church, Ottawa, Ont. Or the Canadian cancer society. The date for Joans service will be posted at a later time as the family has not finished with the arrangements.
