Joan's obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Rev. Joan Herbon, born on Dec 11, 1953. A pillar of her community and cherished member of her family, Joan's life was guided by her immense faith and her unwavering dedication to serving others.

Joan is survived by her loving family: her son Michael Herbon, her daughter Judy Book, her grandsons Jacob and Ethan Herbon, her granddaughters Ella Herbon, Talitha Collicott, and Shirley Book. She is also survived by her brother John Seeger, and her sisters Cheryl Bower and Karen Brooks. Joan was predeceased by her sister Susan Ream, her mother Vera Seeger and her father, John "Jack" Seeger.

Joan was a proud alumnus of Muskegon High School, MI (1972) and Trinity Lutheran Seminary at Capital University, East Main Street, Bexley, OH (2003). Joan was a respected member of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church, where she began her service in 2007. A memorial service to honour Joan's life will be held on Feb 17, 2024 at 11:00am at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Portage, Mi.

Beyond her cherished family and her beloved church, Joan dedicated her life to serving others. She volunteered with Paws With a Cause, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Guide Dogs for the Blind and Pilot Dogs. In lieu of flowers, funds are being raised for "Paws With a Cause".

Joan's life was not only about service, but also about the joy she found in everyday pleasures. Her favorite foods included her own invention of concoction, chinese buffet, ice cream of all kinds, and fillet o fish sandwiches. She loved to drink root beer, coffee with a fun creamer, mixing various sodas, ice water, ice milk and peach schnapps. Her favourite TV shows included New Adventures of Superman and Star Trek. She cheered for the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and the Denver Broncos. She loved to play Rail Baron, Phase 10, Uno and Rummy.

Joan also had a deep appreciation for literature and film. She loved the books of Ann Rice & Dean Koontz, and movies such as Field of Dreams, Princess Bride, You’ve Got Mail and anything featuring Tom Hanks. Joan's favourite colours were every colour of the rainbow, reflective of her vibrant and inclusive personality.

Described as giving, kind, and loving, Joan will always be remembered for her dedicated service, her nurturing spirit, and her love for her family and friends. We believe that she is now in peace, resting in the arms of the Lord she so faithfully served.
