Joan's obituary
Joan Marie (Todorow) Durs passed away on March 26, 2024, in Sanford, Florida at the age of 71. She was born on September 12, 1952, in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to Stephen and Catherine (Waldspurger) Todorow. Joan was the beloved wife of James Durs, Jr.
Joan dedicated her life to caring for others. She began her career as a Registered Nurse and then became a Teacher's Assistant/Para-Professional when her children entered elementary school. She worked at multiple elementary schools in Volusia County, primarily in classrooms with students with special needs. Joan received her education from Lansdale Catholic High School and attended Montgomery Hospital School of Nursing in Pennsylvania.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed baking, spending quality time with her family and friends, and cheering on her grandson at his sporting events. She enjoyed watching her daughter Jennifer run numerous marathons and going to Disney with other daughter Jessica. Her warm and compassionate nature touched the lives of many.
Surviving with her husband are her daughters: Jennifer Bonaskiewich and her husband Dave, and Jessica Elliott and her husband Graham and her son Grayson; her brother Rick Todorow and his wife Isabella and their children; her brother-in-law Todd Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Susan Smith.
A celebration of Joan's life is scheduled for June 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Debary Civic Association located at 38 S. Shell Road in DeBary, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Journey's End Animal Sanctuary, P.O. Box 1966, DeLeon Springs, FL 32130.
Joan's legacy of kindness and selflessness will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed. May she rest in peace.
