My mother, Joan Masters, was a very old friend of Joan and Tony. She, too, grew up in the Bronx and knew them as a young married couple and kept in touch with her always. My sister snd her husband fell in love with Waynesville, NC when they visited Joan and Tony many years ago and wound up purchasing property on the same mountain and became their neighbors for many years. Jeanne and Tom referred to them as the Cruisescellis due to their love of cruising.
I remember visiting them in Waynesville and enjoying Tony’s famous pizza and peanut brittle.
My mother will miss her old friends. She knew something was wrong when she recently attempted to call Joan and her phone number was disconnected.
Their marriage was truly rare. Joan was very much in love with Tony and long marriages like theirs are not often seen.
Please know that are thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Deepest condolences from Francine Lifrieri and family. She was one of Joan’s oldest friends, having met at 13, and they were still communicating regularly, the last speaking around new years. She believes she is the last surviving member of this “original neighborhood crew”. She told me that she helped Joan and Anthony elope.💗 Our most heartfelt sympathy to the entire family. Wishing you peace and comfort in months to come. (Photos to come soon )
