Joan L. Briggs, 26 years of age, a long time citizen of Bowie, MD was born in Charleston, SC and resided in D.C. died August 30, 2023 as a passenger in an automobile accident. Predeceased by her Father Fritz Briggs II. Joan is survived by her Mother Jane (Andersen) Briggs, Sister Julia and Brother Roger.

Joan graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High and attended the University of Maryland, majoring in Environmental Science and Technology. While attending U of M she worked at the vanEnglesdorp Honey Bee Lab, where she aided in laboratory and field research to identify, analyze, and treat common honey bee diseases. She recently worked at The Thirsty Crow as a Bartender and previously at Barcelona Wine Bar. Joan was an integral part of the team and enjoyed her role while employed at both establishments.

In her short life Joan made many friends. It was easy to see the love, joy, and impact she had on those around her. She loved to show off her style and had her own unique way of doing so. It wasn’t unusual for her to sew and create her own look. She was very thoughtful in crafting personalized handmade gifts for those she loved. Joan was a foodie. She loved music and creating extensive playlists. Joan was intelligent and unafraid to make her thoughts known. She was a proud LGBTQ advocate and supporter of individual identity. Joan was independent, spontaneous, funny, generous, kind, thoughtful, smart, creative, artistic, adventurous, loved going on trips, and an all-around fun person. Joan had a really good sense of self and folks knew where they stood in her presence. Joan is loved more than you can imagine and will be deeply missed. “She was my Angel” Momma Briggs says.
