Jo Rhea "Jodie"'s obituary

Jo Rhea “Jodie” Stroud, 86, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, in Lodi, California.

Jodie was born on May 8, 1939, in Franklin, Arkansas. Jodie grew up in Bakersfield, CA, and later made her home in Lakeview, Arkansas, where she spent her later years surrounded by family.

Jodie is survived by her daughters, Connie Raya and Michelle Diaz, her son-in-law Philip Raya, and step-sons Roy Stroud, David Stroud, and Jesse Stroud. She was a proud grandmother to Gail Boyt, Sean Boyt, Laura Walker (Bennett), Kimberly Herold (Matthew), Nicole Newell (Drew), Brandon Raya (Stephanie) , and Denise Spillman. She is also survived by her sister, Lavonna Downing, along with many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Stroud; her parents, Robert and Bernice Moore; sister Bobbie Jean Rosson; daughter Gail Diane Rogers; son Michael Ray Boyt; son-in-law Lawrence Diaz, great-granddaughter Madelyne Boyt; and nephew Don Beckwith.

Jodie, also known and loved by many as “GG”, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family. She made sure everyone was cared for, and had a place to feel at home. With her quick wit, great sense of humor, and strong, resolute spirit, she brought joy to those around her. Jodie loved people and had many lifelong friends who held a special place in her heart.

Her greatest joy was her faith in God. She loved reading her Bible, attending church, and following Jesus. Her gentle strength and steadfast faith were an inspiration and she will be deeply missed.

According to Jodie’s wishes, she will be laid to rest next to her mother at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bakersfield, California after a private memorial.

Her family takes comfort knowing she is reunited with her loved ones and resting peacefully in the arms of her Savior.
