Jo's obituary
Jo graduated from Lake High School in Millbury, Ohio and worked for the Northwood Schools for seventeen years. She is fondly remembered as "Jo the Bus Driver". She was a member of Dendarah Court #10 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America for 38 years and served as the High Priestess from 1990-1991.
Jo moved to Independence, MO in November of 1995 to be with her friend and partner Edna Walraven. She worked briefly for Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) in Kansas City before retiring on disability. Jo and Edna shared a love of theatre as well as many other interests and experienced 22 1/2 wonderful years together, enjoying every day. Together they were complete.
She was her daughter Kimi's BEST FRIEND and always will be. Jo loved to go fishing, enjoyed sports and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. You can be sure she will be yelling "O-H" from heaven on game days.
So many tears are shed, but knowing she is no longer in pain is a small comfort. Jo's easy smile and playful personality will long be imprinted on the hearts of all who knew her. Family and friends will miss her so much but all are grateful to have been a part of her life.
Jo was a loving wife, mother, sister and aunt along with being a friend to many. She leaves her wife Edna, daughter Kim Hazel-Myers (Jeri), brothers Ronald Spencer (Faye) and Donald Spencer, brother-in-law Kenny Walraven and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jo's life will be held at the Sylvania Masonic Lodge at 3510 N. Holland- Sylvania Rd., Toledo, OH 43615 between 12:00 and 4:00 on Saturday, June 16, 2018. Dendarah Court Shrine services will be at 12:30 with a spiritual service being conducted by her dear friend Arnie Arndt immediately following. Please come join the family for fellowship and refreshments, and remember to bring a funny or loving story about her to share so that we may all be continually reminded of what a truly special woman she was.
Memorials may be made to the Chicago Shriners Hospital for Children in care of Dendarah Court and may be mailed to Zoellen Murphy at P.O. Box 1, Rossford, OH 43460-0001
