With profound sadness, we bid farewell to Jo Lenard Gasaway, a cherished member of our community, who passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024, at the age of 73. Jo's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born on February 13, 1952, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jo was the daughter of Samuel and Alice Gasaway. She grew up in Des Moines, where she developed a deep appreciation for the city's culture, history, and culinary traditions.

Jo was known for her warm personality, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. She had a knack for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and her infectious laughter and quick wit could brighten even the darkest of days.

In addition to her culinary pursuits, Jo Lenard was a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren, seeming as her family was the center of her universe.

Jo's legacy of love, laughter, and delicious food will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her children, Larry Mason, Michael Jr., and Jamie Gasaway, as well as her grandchildren, Demetreyon Anderson, RaSaan Gasaway, KiMarii Ellis, and KiMora Ellis.

A memorial service to honor Jo Lenard's life will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Chapel in Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Des Moines Food Bank in Jo's memory, to continue her legacy of giving back to the community she loved.

As we mourn Jo's passing, let us also celebrate the joy and laughter she brought into our lives. May her memory be a blessing, and may her spirit live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
