Jimmy Salazar, September 26, 1942 - August 14, 2025
Jimmy Salazar passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his family. He was a proud lifetime native of San Antonio for 82 years. Jimmy was born to Santiago Salazar and Beatrice Calonge on September 26, 1942. He graduated from Burbank High school, Class of '61, and entered the 4 year Sheet Metal Local #67 Apprenticeship program after graduating. Jimmy served his apprenticeship years at AJ Monier and upon his completion of becoming a Master Journeyman, Jimmy was hired by A J Monier. In 1972 Jimmy became an Instructor for Local #67 Sheet Metal Apprenticeship. He fulfill that educational career for 30 years. Throughout his 30 years as an instructor a number of Jimmy’s students were able to compete on the Apprenticeship National level. During these years Jimmy was fortunate to attend summer seminars in Chicago, Illinois, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and most rewarding Ohio State University. He was also selected to serve for the City of San Antonio Mechanical Board of Appeals and Advisory Board 2006-2010, while Julian Castro was Mayor. One of Jimmy’s most memorable contribution to his Sheet Metal trade, while employed at M&M Metals, was being instrumental in the fabrication of the air duct exhaust system outside of the hangers at the San Antonio International Airport. Jimmy enjoyed and completed his career working for M&M Metals. As of August 2025, Jimmy achieved 62 years of continuous good standing service as a member of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Santiago and Beatrice, his brothers Johnny Salazar and David Salazar, and his son Jimmy Salazar II.
Jimmy is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Veronica Salazar , his sons and daughters in-law: Christopher Anthony, Steven Beltran, Eric Salazar (Rita Salazar), Craig Salazar (Diane Salazar), and Adrian Salazar (Donna Salazar), his sisters in-laws: Donna and Kathy Salazar, his nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Jimmy was a steeple in his family, loved, cherished, and always present. Jimmy was well-respected, smart, talented, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Jimmy will be greatly missed and always remembered by those that love him and got to be a part of his full life.
Jimmy’s Celebration of Life will be on Sept. 26 @ 10:00 am. @ St Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 102 Lorenz Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, with a reception in the church hall after the service.
