Jim "Papa Bear" Hopkins, age 68, of Des Moines passed away on March 13, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Jane Zajec; his son, Jason Hopkins; grandchildren, Jack and Julia; his sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Arnie Schlenker, and his sister-in-law Judy Zajec.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Hopkins, and his brother, Randy Hopkins.

After retiring, Jim enjoyed traveling with his wife Jane and spending time with his grandkids.  He was also active in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) for many years, where he met Jane, and was known as "Cormac" by his friends. He always cheered on the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes. Our family is grateful to know that Papa Bear is finally at peace. A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.
