Jimmy's obituary

With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Jimmy Buffet, a man whose life was more vibrant than the colors of the sunset he loved to watch from his sailboat. Born on December 25, 1946, Jimmy's life was a soundtrack of joy, laughter, and a dash of silliness up until September 1, 2023.

Jimmy was a master storyteller, colorfully painting with words the stories of his adventures and misadventures. He was often described as fun-loving and free-spirited, with an infectious spirit that brought a smile to everyone he met. Some would even lovingly describe him as a bit of a drunk, though he argued that he was simply enthusiastic about life - and rum punch.

Music was his soul and Jimmy Buffett tunes were his rhythm. As a singer-songwriter, he spun tales of paradise adventures and a laid-back lifestyle that resonated with countless fans. His favorite place to perform was in Margaritaville, a spot he loved so much due to its relaxed ambiance and vibrant energy.

Jimmy graduated from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1969 with a degree in History, a subject that perhaps fostered his deep love for storytelling. In 1972, he entered into a marriage that would bring him two treasures he cherished beyond anything else: his granddaughters Laur Gi and Meg Di.

When not singing or sailing - his favorite recreational activity and method of exercise - Jimmy could be found playing a game of Scrabble or enjoying tacos, his favorite food. His favorite film, Lion King, showcased his love for adventure and his favorite color, blue, mirrored the endless expanses of the ocean he loved.

His legacy, a recording career and world travel, was a testament to a life lived fully and enthusiastically. In lieu of flowers, the family is raising funds for the Arbor Day Foundation. Donations can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of….

Jimmy taught us many things, but perhaps his best lesson was on how to make a Margarita. It was a metaphor for life, he would say: a little bit of sour, a dash of sweet, a lot of spirit, and all shaken up. Add a pinch of salt, because life is unpredictable. And always, always, enjoy it with friends. Here's to you, Jimmy, you'll be missed.
