Jimmie's obituary

Jimmie Lee Smith, “The Mayor, JP and Sheriff of Rocky Creek”, a lifelong resident of Johnson City, Texas, loving son, brother, Daddy, Papaw, uncle, cousin and beloved friend passed peacefully at his home Saturday evening, November 18, 2023, at the age of 67 with his loving family by his side.

Jimmie was born February 15, 1956, in Johnson City, Texas. He was the youngest of nine children born to Earl and Louise Smith, alongside his brothers Wilburn, Earl Jr., John, Donald Ray, sisters Elizabeth, Earlene, Jessie and Linda to complete their family of eleven.

Jimmie attended school in the Johnson City Independent School District. He was in FFA from 1971 to 1974. He also was manager of the baseball team from 1971 to 1972, he also managed the basketball, football and track team. Jimmie graduated from LBJ High School in 1974.

After graduation, Jimmie worked as a truck driver for many years. His CB handle was Cruiser. He worked at Eckert Trucking in Fredericksburg and Don’s Grass in Austin. After retiring from trucking, Jimmie started his business building fences around Blanco County. After he retired from fencing, he became ranch foreman for his beloved and respected friend Doc. Connor.

Jimmie loved his community and volunteered for several charities and organizations such as Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department where he would help with the annual fish fry, and the Pig Roast “The Hill Country Toy Run” where he would Bar B Que. Jimmie was the type of man you could call anytime day or night and would always be there ready to help.

Jimmie loved riding in parades with his dancing horse Bumper. But, most of all, Jimmie loved his family and always put family first. He loved hosting his annual Memorial Day weekend fish fry. He enjoyed all the family gatherings. That’s why he and his close friend and cousin Billy Wittkohl started doing the Bar B Quing for the annual family reunion. Jimmie, a few years ago, decided to pass the torch to the younger generation. You could always find Jimmie singing and dancing when the family was gathered. Jimmie was always the life of the party.

Uncle Jimmie had a special bond with each of his nieces and nephews and would always be ready to lend an ear or chew your butt, whichever he thought you needed.

Jimmie is survived by his loving daughter, Tiffany Miracle, son-in-law Troy, grandson Cody Jones wife Tiffany, granddaughter Paisley Foland husband Cameron, great grandchildren Jayden, Abby, Leland and Kennedy of New Tazewell, Tennessee. His two sisters, Elizabeth Bible and Jessie Farmer both of Johnson City, two brothers-in-law Don Farmer of Johnson City and Wayne Leighton of Rock Springs, two sisters-in-law Patty Smith and Evelyn Smith both of Marble Falls. Nephews Richard Mixx of New Caney, Dana Mixx of Austin, Roger Smith of Lake Jackson, Don Smith Jr. of Granite Shoals, Michael Mixx and Larry Bible of Johnson City. Nieces Gladys Leighton of Goldthwaite, Dorrie Leighton of Canyon Lake, Cindy Nagel of Burnet, Tammy Smith of Marble Falls, April Tumlison of Rock Springs, Patricia Hart of New Caney Crystal Gomez of Texas City, Doris Bible, Linda Bible, Judy Nagel, Candice Farmer and Laura Farmer all of Johnson City. Along with numerous grand and great nieces and nephews, cousins and many loving friends.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents Earl Smith and Louise Sultemeier, brothers Wilburn Mixx, Earl Smith Jr, Donald Ray Smith, and John Smith, sisters Linda Smith and Earlene Leighton, brother-in-law John Bible.

We will pay tribute to the memory of Jimmie on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 2:30pm at the Rocky Creek Pleasant Valley School located at 183 Rocky Road Johnson City, Texas 78636.
