Jim's obituary

Jerome J. Walzak Jr passed away on October 2, 2023 in Port Charlotte, FL at the age of 72.  Growing up Jim lived in a few towns in Ocean County and attended Southern Regional High School. Jim started his career with the Navy from 1969-1973 stationed in San Diego, CA.

After Honorably serving his country, Jim moved back to Manahawkin and started his family.  During the years of 1971-1977 he got married and became a father of a daughter and two sons. Jim could fix almost anything.  He had various jobs and wore many hats such as working at a lumber company, construction, helped at a veterinary clinic and volunteered as a firefighter for Stafford Township Fire Company.  His career took him down to Atlantic City to work as a Security Guard for the Taj Mahal. Even though he worked many hours, he coached his sons sports teams and was present for all other sports they played. There were many on the go meals during sports.  Pizza from Schianos or a special cheesesteak from Panzones were other favorites .   He loved to fish at the local lake when he had down time.  Since his love for animals was grand the family pets ranged from many dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, and even a monkey,  He rescued 2 baby raccoons whose mother disappeared.

In 2001, he moved to Florida with his beloved wife Cristy and her daughter and son.  He supported them with his wife in their sports ventures as well.  This is where he began volunteering for the Charlotte Tarpons and continued until his untimely passing.  He was given the nicknames”Crazy Jim” and “Candyman”.  He would arrive to the field or gymnasium with his blue cooler full of mints, gum, root beer barrels, twizzlers and other treats for the players and staff.

His favorite restaurant was the Celtic Ray where he always ordered his Fish and Chips with only five fries.  It would be the Celtic Ray or The Philadelphian for their cheesesteaks at the top of his list.

Jim had a heart of gold. he loved his family and friends and would give you the shirt off his back.  If anyone ever needed help with anything they knew they could call Jim and he would be there.  He had the gift of gab often offering his advice whether you wanted it or not. In the end he was mostly right.

He was predeceased by many family members.  He is sorely missed by his children, daughter Denise Neiss, son Jim Walzak and wife Allison, son Bryan Walzak and wife Jessica, daughter Jenny D'Alessandro, son Mikey D'Alessandro and wife Stephanie, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters and their families and many friends whom he felt were family to him.  With ties to both states Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories for all to share in laughter,  joy and maybe some tears.
