Jim (James)'s obituary

James “Jim” Carey lived a life marked by steady faith, quiet strength, and a deep commitment to the people he loved. He approached each day with intention, seeking not recognition, but faithfulness—in his walk with the Lord, in his work, and in the care of his family. On April 2, 2026, he passed at home after a courageous battle with cancer, entering into the presence of his Savior. Though his absence is deeply felt, his family finds peace in knowing he is restored, rejoicing in Heaven, and at rest after a life well lived.

Jim was born on July 31, 1954, in Rockford, Illinois, to James and Pauline Carey. On June 17, 1978, he married Elizabeth, the love of his life, and together for 47 years they built a home centered on faith and family—one shaped by consistency, sacrifice, and enduring love. They raised their five children in Santa Clara, California, and later settled in Meridian, Idaho, where they spent their final years surrounded by those they cherished most.

He lived 71 years defined not by grand display, but by quiet faithfulness, integrity, and purpose. He was a devoted husband, a steady and guiding father, and a proud grandfather to eleven. He expressed his love not only in words, but in presence—in the countless ways he showed up, provided, and led with quiet conviction. For nearly 50 years, he served as a high school teacher, patiently investing in the lives of his students, and faithfully served in ministry as a Jr. Church pastor, sharing God’s Word and pointing young hearts toward Christ. He was also a skilled electrician, a trade learned from his father, and spent many summers working with his hands to ensure his family was cared for. In every role he carried, he labored with humility and purpose, leaving a mark far beyond what could be seen.

He found joy in building—shaping both spaces and lives with steady hands and a thoughtful heart. Over the years, he helped construct church buildings, classrooms, and places where others could learn, gather, and grow. At home, he built just as faithfully, adding a second story to the house as his family expanded, making room for the life unfolding within it. He filled ordinary days by creating a backyard rich with beauty and care for his children and grandchildren—crafting play structures, forts, and fruit and flower gardens. Whether working in wood shops, classrooms, or quiet corners of home, he took lasting satisfaction in building things that would serve others. Yet his greatest work was not what he built, but the life he lived—one of faith, humility, and service.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his parents; and his brother, Don. He is survived by his children: Nathan (Jeanette), Marcus (Sandy), Jared (Shannon), Matthew, and Monica (Alan); his sister, Susanne; his brothers, Ken and Keith; and his eleven cherished grandchildren.

Jim’s life was a testament to enduring faith and steadfast love. Though he is no longer with us, the legacy he leaves behind continues in the lives he shaped, the family he led, and the truth he faithfully lived. We take comfort in the promise of Christ and the assurance that this is not the end, but a reunion yet to come.
