Jim's obituary

Jim Bailey, age 71, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Jim led a full, vibrant life marked by his unwavering positivity and a knack for bringing out the best in everyone around him. His vivacious personality, described as bubbly, animated, charismatic, and caring, was true to his fun-loving spirit.

For 32 years, Jim dedicated his life to teaching and coaching with passion, touching the hearts of thousands along the way. He was more than an educator—he was a mentor, a motivator, and a source of constant encouragement. Known as a true friend and a favorite teacher to many, his smile and infectious energy could light up any room. His joy for life, unwavering kindness, and belief in others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Coach Bailey's legacy lives on in the countless lives he shaped, the confidence he inspired, and the lessons—both academic and personal—that will never be forgotten. His recreational pursuits included enjoying live music, camping, and spending time with family and friends. During his teaching years, he often ran the loop at the State Park for exercise, combining his love for nature with his commitment to staying fit.

Jim is survived by his son, Buck Bailey, his brother, Bill Bailey, and his sister, Lynn Kilgore. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Linda Bailey, and his mother, Gladys Bailey. His loved ones will forever remember him for his enthusiastic kindness, his boundless encouragement, deep love, and the transformative positivity he infused into every life he touched. He will also be remembered fondly by extended family, friends, former students, and colleagues who cherished his warmth, humor, and generosity.

Though dementia slowly took pieces of him, it never erased the love he gave or the impact he made. His spirit, smile, and endless positivity will continue to live on in the memories of all who knew him. As he joins his dear wife Linda in the afterlife, we find consolation in knowing they are together once again!

In memory of Gym, let us celebrate not just the life he lived, but the lives he touched, the smiles he shared, and the joy he radiated. He has left an indelible imprint on our hearts, and his spirit will continue to inspire us always. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held sometime in March in the Bastrop/Austin area. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share your memories, quotes, pictures, fun facts, etc. on the linked shared site.
