Jette's obituary
Jette Maalø Marosfalvy passed away on March 19, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas at the age of 72 years.
Jette was born in Nyborg, Denmark to Knud and Birgit Larsen. She met Hans Marosfalvy as a child, and knew at age 9 years, that one day they would marry. Seventeen years later, they did, and for 47 years they shared laughter, global travel, and a love of dancing together.
In 1978, Hans and Jette started their family in Ontario, Canada. Over the years, the family moved several times within the United States. They lived in New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Kansas, and ultimately retired in Texas.
Jette was very athletic and active throughout her life. She was on the Danish volleyball team in her youth and later played badminton and tennis. She also enjoyed hiking and bird watching. Through these activities, she met many lifelong friends.
Jette was the social nexus of the family. She built a community of joy and friendship wherever she lived. She stayed in touch with schoolmates, coworkers, and friends from throughout her life and all over Europe and North America, continuing to build a strong bond with them and keeping track of what was happening in their lives regardless of how far away they were or how often they saw each other in person. She cherished her friends.
She loved being a mom. From family time outdoors followed by freshly prepared raisin rolls or carrot muffins with tea to checking in about her children’s days to giving the best hugs, there was no question that she loved her children. She showed it daily.
For the past 17 years, Jette has relished being a beloved “mormor” and “farmor” to her grandchildren. She eagerly played on the floor with them in their early years and let them crawl all over her. She baked Danish cookies, assembled puzzles, gardened, played soccer, hiked, and enjoyed spa days with them. Her grandchildren were her world.
She fostered an appreciation for their German and Danish heritage and culture, among her children and grandchildren. She hosted family for European breakfast once every few weeks. The table was filled with the kids’ favorite jams, cold cuts, cheeses, and honey. She made advent calendars for her children until they finished college and then for her grandchildren, knowing their delight in opening daily gifts leading up to Christmas. Jette poured her heart and soul into sharing Julefrokost with her American neighbors and friends, providing a time of togetherness and celebration during the holidays. It was loved by all and eagerly anticipated each year.
Jette lived a life of service. She worked as a nurse, volunteered on a kibbutz in the 70s and with the Alzheimer’s Association later in life, leading caregiver meetings. She loved being a mother, loved being a grandmother, and loved being a friend. She always put others first and held her strong connections to the end of her life here.
Jette was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Hans; her brothers, John (Ulla) and Søren Larsen; her son Nikolas Marosfalvy (Lacy), daughter Kristine Doshi (Jay), and stepson Christopher Marosfalvy (Andrea); six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
This summer, Jette will be laid to rest near her parents in Denmark.
People wishing to honor her legacy can do so by enjoying time in nature, checking in on a distant friend, hosting a meal with your neighbors, or donating in her name to the American Cancer Society or the Musical Memories Singers.
