Jesus's obituary

Jesus Alegado, 84, of San Diego, California, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025. He was surrounded by his loved ones, as he was welcomed into the arms of God. In his final moments, he was spared from suffering and took his last breath filled with calmness and dignity, lovingly witnessed by his devoted wife, Rebecca. In his last days and hours, he enjoyed the music played by his grandson, Rocangelo, using the piano his Lolo Papa gifted him.

Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1940, in Camiling, Tarlac, Philippines, Jesus was fittingly named after our Savior in Heaven. A first born son, he grew up in a disciplinarian household under the guidance of his father who was a police officer. He loved his mother, who was very kind. He then went on to complete his studies at Camiling Colleges before pursuing higher education at Far Eastern University.

His first job was at the Philippine National Railways. However, from an early age, Jesus discovered a profound love for music that became the heartbeat of his life. A profoundly gifted trumpet player, he performed with orchestras, in military bases, including ensembles across Vietnam, Guam, Bangkok, Italy, U.S.A., Europe, and Asia, and later on renowned cruise ships and stages worldwide. He also played trumpet in Manila, Philippines. His musical inspirations, Doc Severinsen and Miles Davis, guided a career that allowed him to share his gift across continents. He worked hard to support his family.

Beyond music, Jesus was a man with Catholic faith and was deeply in love with his wife, Rebecca. In the Philippines, he cared for his three children while his wife worked overseas. He subsequently ran for local office, managed a school bus business, and served as a group leader in Couples for Christ. Together with Rebecca, they later opened a family food business, Pangasinan’s Best, before immigrating to California in 2003. Even in later years, he continued working in the U.S. to help provide for his sons and their families, always carrying the dream of seeing his children and grandchildren reach their highest potentials.

He loved jazz and Filipino music, especially Imelda Papin, as well as watching WWE wrestling and TV Patrol. His deepest joy came from family moments—especially watching his musically gifted grandson perform Beethoven and Mozart piano pieces, where his love for music lived on. He was fond of frequently communicating with his children and their families back home. His cellphone was always close to him, he loved looking at their videos and photos. He also visited them.

Jesus shared a devoted marriage of 46 long years with Rebecca, whom he affectionately called “Sasang” while she called him “Lallo.” Together, they built a life of faith, love, and perseverance. He was a father to Jereco (Angelica), Rean (Petite), and Tricia (Solomon), and a doting grandfather to Athara, Aleo, Miguel, and Rocangelo. He is also remembered by his sister Jacqueline (Jimmy) with son Jean Michael, sister-in-law Elenita with son Aries, sister-in law Marietta with children Jennifer and Albert, and sister-in-law Magda with children Francis and Lex.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Perfecto and Cresencia; his Aunt, Maria “Mayang”; his brothers Avelino “Billy”, Agripino “Omy”, and Juan “Johnny”; and his nephew, Allan.

Quiet by nature, Jesus found peace in stillness and loved staying home. His life was a symphony as a musician, and this made him travel the world. He may not be very expressive, but he had unwavering devotion to his family, and again, especially to his wonderful wife. Though he has left this world, his legacy of harmony and love continues to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He is now resting in eternal peace in God’s Kingdom.
