Jessica's obituary

Jessica Lynne Schultz

June 17, 1972 – June 12, 2025

Jessica Lynne Schultz, 52, passed away peacefully at her home in Marysville, Washington on June 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Born in Chicago, Illinois on June 17, 1972, Jessica’s life was a testament to creativity, resilience, and love.

While still a child, Jessica’s mother Carol died, and she moved to Alaska to live with her sister Donna. Eventually, they relocated to the Seattle area, where Jess spent her adult life. She moved to Marysville three years ago with her husband, Rich Eicher, after they bought a home together.

Jessica graduated from state cosmetology training while still in high school and spent over 30 years as a dedicated and remarkably talented hairstylist. An artist at heart, Jess brought her creative eye and gentle precision to every service, earning lifelong clients who often traveled long distances just to sit in her chair. Her customers adored her not only for her skill, but for her gift of conversation — she could talk to a physicist about string theory or a janitor about floor care, and she made everyone feel seen, heard, and valued. Her clients were her extended family.

Jessica’s artistry extended beyond the salon. She was a lifelong visual artist — painting, sculpting, and creating unique works that graced galleries, shops, and nightclubs across Seattle. She and Rich were somewhat notorious as the Seattle street art duo “Vortex.”

Her passion for music was encyclopedic and unmatched, and she was known to DJ as “Tanglefoot.” From classical to punk rock, she curated a vast vinyl collection that speaks to her deep love of sound, history, and culture.

She loved animals — especially her beloved cat Ziggy — and supported animal welfare organizations throughout her life. She was compassionate, sharp, effortlessly stylish, and deeply thoughtful. Jessica remembered the tiniest details about others, and she treated every person with dignity and kindness. Her superpower was making people feel understood.

Jessica is survived by her husband Rich Eicher; her sister and brother-in-law Donna and Joseph Bell; godparents Jesse and Elaine Pattison; many loving nieces and nephews including Jesiah, Jerome and Jasper Bell, and Desiree Sporich; and grand niece Natalie Hernandez. She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Schultz, her father, Michael Epstein, and her brother Edward Schultz. She will be laid to rest in a private scattering ceremony in Deadwood, Oregon, alongside her mother and grandmother.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 29th at 4:30 PM at City Calvary Chapel, 15211 15th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA. A reception will follow. All are welcome — the service will be casual and full of love, just as Jess would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jessica’s name to Best Friends Animal Society, whose mission to end the killing in America’s animal shelters was close to her heart.
