Jessica's obituary
Jessica Helene Monat
A popular and well-known member of the Washington, DC Association of Realtors, Jessica Helene Monat was born May 3, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY. Daughter of Francis Theodore Monat and Rose Helene Pater, Jessica passed away peacefully on January 4, 2024 following a fierce battle against cancer.
By 1950, Jessica's family had relocated to Rutherford, NJ, where she graduated from high school prior to attending George Washington University as a member of the class of 1970. It was there that she fell in love with Washington, DC, honed her political science expertise, marched in Viet Nam War protests and found herself in the crowd at the Woodstock Music Festival.
Jessica was employed by the Circle Theater, where she was mentored by Ted and Jim Pedas. She became a film distributor and worked alongside Alan and Susan Rubin at the Biograph Theater in Georgetown, and began a lifelong friendship with all of them.
Her successful career as a realtor began in the late 1970s with Snider Bros., moving onto Merrill Lynch, Prudential Preferred Properties and Randall H. Hagner & Company where she was dubbed "Very Special Agent Monat." in 2007, she joined McEnearney Associates where her decades of real estate expertise coupled with her knowedge of all things D.C. resulted in extraordinary success. Knowing she helped someone find their perfect home truly warmed her heart.
Jessica loved to read and was passionate about the arts, theater, and fine dining. Most of all, she loved spending time with the people she loved. A lifelong Democrat, she was always well-prepared for a spirited analysis and debate of the political topic of the day.
Jessica is survived by her sister, Cecelia Monat Taylor; her niece Corliss Taylor Jackson; her grand-nieces, Ciara, Alanah and Mariah Jackson; her cousins, Linda Russman, Debra Main, Denise Gray and David Larson; and cherished friends, too numerous to list.
A cremation and private burial is planned.
On May 4, 2024 at 3 p.m., friends and family are invited to a celebration of Jessica's life at The lowa Condominium, her beloved home for 40 years.
Gifts in her memory may be made to The Studio Theater (14th Street DC).
