Jesse's obituary
Jesse River Young, age 24, passed away on March 02, 2024, in Beaverton, Oregon. Jesse was born December 30, 1999 to Mark and Julie Young in Johnson City, TN. Jesse is preceded in death by their dad Mark Young, and grandparents Angie and Richard Young. Jesse is survived by their siblings Shelby and Luke Young, mother Julie Young, grandparents John (Wanda) McGhee, aunts Tanya (Doug) Dehart, Hollie Young, Laura (Danny) Hunley, cousins Caleb and Janae Dehart, Summer (Hunter) Leonard, John Daniel Hunley, and many other close friends.
Jesse grew up in Fall Branch, Tennessee where they attended Fall Branch Elementary/Middle School. Jesse also attended Daniel Boone High School in Gray, Tennessee where they graduated in 2018. Jesse was adventurous after they graduated, and spent some time living with assorted family and friends in Tennessee, Minnesota, and Oregon.
Jesse loved possums, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, honey mustard, playing in a band with their friends, writing, singing, and playing bass and electric guitar. They absolutely adored long-boarding, hiking, swimming, anime, and spending time with those they felt safe with, and loved by.
Jesse spent many hours being goofy, and playing video games with their siblings and friends. They touched the lives of those who understood them in a most beautiful and memorable way. They were highly intelligent and aware. They loved a good debate, and could prove almost any point they wanted to. They had a charming sarcasm that also made them difficult to argue with.
Jesse was strong and accepting of all people. They were an advocate, and truly spoke against injustice. They were loyal, protective, smart and beautiful. Though they were mostly misunderstood, they were very empathetic and supportive of those that truly knew them. In the saddest and darkest moments, they always had a joke that could make you laugh, and an embrace that momentarily erased your pain.
Jesse's tragic death has left an impactful absence in the lives of many. They were failed by many systems as a child, but those that loved them fought for them. Those that adored Jesse take a small comfort in knowing that Jesse is free from fighting their darkness, and has finally found peace.

A Teared Sniff
Written by: Luke Young to honor his brother.
A little Boy wrapped in toys
Thinking life was all fun,
His gorgeous smile,
Personality, as mosaic tile
Laid in patterns as if to reflect the sun
But sadness soon came
Bringing heavy mental rain
Damaging that smile so nice
Mistreatment and confusion
Not of his choosin’
Brought torment like a case of lice
Few remedies around
Like a harsh metal sound
But sadly a horrid one he chose
He just wanted to be free,
Not addicted eternally
But to drugs, help, he proposed
Some tried to help
But were weak as a welp
To the damage raging inside
He just wanted peace
To mental freedom, to sign a lease
But from pain he could no longer hide
While it’s sad to see, his mortality
While wondering or saying what if?
I choose to find life in his death
While I still have breath
So no more death
Causes a teared sniff.
