J.R. was born on June 25, 1957, in Blytheville, Arkansas to Dorene Oakey and Jerry Urubek. J.R. was later raised by his mother and Bill Stoney in Harrisville, Utah. And thus the nickname "STONEY " was born.

J.R. had a love of music, rocks, nature and people. J.R. was pure magic. He had a magnetic personality and was a source of joy and inspiration to those who knew him. His warm spirit and charming personality touched many lives, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness. He loved music and jamming with his buddies. He was a talented musician and played drums, guitar and sang beautifully. A gift he passed down to many grandchildren.
J.R. was a lifelong member of The Chirch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He deeply loved Heavenly Father and his Savior, Jesus Christ.
