It has been very strange seeing younger day photos of pappy. The pappy I knew was so humble and spiritually connected to the Earth. He loved the farm fields, he loved watching the deer run, he had a specific one he named Sam. He would often collect pretty rocks and arrowheads. On more than one occasion I would catch him reading from his Bible that he tucked into the mountain of things behind his chair. He very much believed in the after life and said he prayed on a very regular basis. When I would say I “Hated” someone he would make it a point to say how he hates no one and that it was a really strong word. Pappy had no negative vibes or emotions in this world.
When I was about 5 my dad had a Lincoln and the shifter was broke so he had visegrips in place of it. For the longest time I thought that was the actual gearshifter.
One of the best memories I have of Jerry Is him driving the school bus going to West Virginia. The bus broke down and all the drummers were out trying to push it. He was a really good driver. Many trips with all the kids. Lots of good times during those days and playing softball in between. He loved playing softball.
I’m very sorry for your loss. No matter how prepared we think we are it’s so hard to lose someone. I know that he was suffering and I hope that his passing brings a small amount of peace in the knowledge that he’s not suffering now. I will keep all of you in my prayers. God bless you and your family.
I remember my step-dad taking us for a ride in his old car, I think it was a 48' dodge, but not sure. Anyway, I just remember hearing "The Things We Do for Love playing as we were riding. I also have memories of him bringing us home this cool shiny paper from his work. We loved making stuff with it.
