Jerry's obituary
Jerry J. Pelikan Jr., age 76, of Lombard, Illinois, passed away on August 9, 2023 surrounded by family and friends . Jerry was raised in a restaurant environment as a youth which inspired him to become a chef in adulthood. Jerry graduated Elmwood Park High School and joined the National Guard. He married Madonna Thompson and together they had two sons and Jerry had 3 stepchildren. Continuing in the food industry, Jerry won many awards for his fantastic dishes. Jerry was featured on many media platforms as a chef and became a 1st place winner in BBQ ribs, chili, and macaroni & cheese contests in the Chicagoland area. Jerry frequently contributed dishes at the Taste Of Chicago. Jerry loved working with a myriad of community dining events, including: Stanley Kitchen and Tap, Melvin Bs, BBs, Partners, Sidekicks, Oak Park Arms, and The Sanctuary. His hobbies included horses, family, and church events. Upon retirement Jerry joined The Salvation Army Corps and other churches in the suburban areas, and volunteered his work through cooking, singing, and helping with the elderly.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Jerry Pelikan Sr. Mamie (Marino), his lovely wife Madonna (Thompson) and his sister Kathleen Koopman (Pelikan). Surviving siblings are Jeannie Hoke (Jerry), Michael Pelikan (Donna) , Kenneth Pelikan, MaryLou Majewski (Dan), Bonnie Klemz (Duke), and Nancy Pelikan. Surviving children are Donald Pelikan, Ronald Pelikan, Roxanne, Dennis , and Shelly. Jerry had many grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s Celebration of Life Service is on Saturday, September 16, 2023 from 10:00am -1:00pm. The Salvation Army Oakbrook Terrace: 1S415 Summit Avenue, Villa Park, IL 60181. Service at 10:00am with lunch to follow.
