Jerry's obituary
Jerry Mitchell passed away peacefully in his home in Oceanside, CA on Sunday, January 9th, 2022, at age 83.
Jerry was born to his parents, Irving and Iola Mitchell, on February 16th, 1938, in Milbridge, Maine. He grew up in Maine with his sister Betty Lazmicka. He loved lobster fishing with his dad and spending time near the water. After graduating from New London High School High he served in the Air National Guard of Connecticut from 1956-1959 and the Army National Guard of Connecticut from 1959-1962.
After an honourable discharge, he started his career with General Dynamics as a welder and pipefitter working on Submarines in Groton, Connecticut. Later, he worked for the Millstone Power plant in Waterford, CT.
Jerry met his first wife Nancy Weagle. They married and went on to have 4 children, Richard Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Dawn VanHoose Lyons, and David Mitchell. They lived in New London, Connecticut, for many years until
the family moved to Oceanside, California, in 1978, where Jerry worked for Bechtel and the San Onofre Nuclear Power plant. Nancy died from breast cancer on September 15th,1992.
Jerry married his second wife, Elizabeth Mitchell, on September 25th, 1993, in Carlsbad, California, at the Carlsbad Assembly of God.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving father and husband, Jerry was a born-again Christian and served his communities thru church. He served as a Deacon, worked with the prison ministries and could often be found in downtown Oceanside in front of the men's service center witnessing to young Marines. He held an unwavering faith in God throughout his entire life, which he shared with those who surrounded him and dedicated his life to serving the Lord and sharing the word of God.
Jerry retired in 2001 from being a welder and a pipefitter for over 50 years and called Oceanside home since 1978. He enjoyed serving the church, golfing with friends, watching Padres baseball games and spending time with family.
