Jerry's obituary

Jerry Edward Lydon, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed into the next LIFE, peacefully, surrounded by family in his home, on Saturday  May 14th,  2022.

Jerry was born March 22, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa to his parents Joe Lydon and Lillian (Milligan) Lydon.  He had two brothers, Steve Lydon and Mick Lydon, two sisters, Diana Jarman and Colleen Feeney, whom he loved very much.

Jerry graduated from North High School in 1973.  Following his graduation he joined the Military, full Tour of Duty in the Army, stationed in Germany.  Following his Army career, he next joined the Navy, which eventually landed him in Montgomery County, Maryland.  It was here that he was united in marriage to Teresa (Steele) Lydon, a single Mom with one son,  Jason Thomas Everett (at the young age of 8),  of whom he adopted into his heart.

Jerry's other children include his beloved daughters Amy Ann (Lydon) McNerny and Anna Leigh (Lydon) Philipps, his beloved sons Joel Stephen Lydon and Josiah Jubilee Lydon.  Jerry's children were everything to him.  He was so proud of each one of them and now with children of their own, a Legacy of LOVE that will LIVE on ...

Jerry was a faithful Man of God, a good neighbor (the Mr. Rogers of the neighborhood), and a servant to many,  devoted to his wife and children.

In 2002, shortly after enlisting in The  Delaware Army National Guard, he was deployed to Iraq for an 18 month Tour of Duty.  He was known by his soldiers as Sgt. Care Jerr and Sgt. Happy.  He was a father figure even to those young men of whom he served alongside.

Jerry's tremendous faith kept him strong in spirit during his 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer.  He endured the pain and suffering with much courage.

All who knew him during this time will never forget the example of his commitment to Jesus Christ to the very end.  "After you've done ALL stand" ... and he did ... with great faith.

He never stopped believing in miracles on this side of Heaven, but now he has received his eternal LIFE reward, with no more pain and no more suffering.  Jerry will be greatly missed, but there will be a magnificent reunion someday.

Hebrews 11 ... Jeremiah 33:3 ... John 17 ... Psalm 23

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lillian Lydon.

A Celebration of LIFE Ceremony will be held at River of Life Church, 3801 Blairs Ferry Rd NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday  June 4th, 2022 at 2:00pm.  A family style "Pot of Faith" (everyone brings a dish to share), will follow the ceremony.

Other good memories and condolences may be sent to Teresa Steele Lydon via social media, email, phone call or mail.  Thank you for your care and your prayers.
