Jerome "Poochie" Dextor Hamlette died suddenly on Saturday, June 3, 2023.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Cromwell and Viola Hamlette and his maternal grandmother, Lydia Hopkins.  

Poochie loved God (he always called God "Daddy").   Anyone who knew Jerome knew he always had a Suduko book in his hands and would get mad when his pen runs out of ink lol.  Jerome was a avid reader and loved to work on our family garden along side Jacori.  Every morning at 8:30 a.m.  Poochie would do his daily scripture reading no matter what was happening.  Poochie was extremely happy seeing Jamilette make her cosplay outfits even though he would sometimes get on her nerves when he tried to tell her what to do with it lol and watching Jacori develop a passion for the guitar.  He would not miss any of Jacori's sporting performances or Jamilettes beauty pageants or cosplaying events.   Poochie would never let his wife or children spend a night in the hospital alone even if he had to sleep in the car, as he did many times.  In 2019 Jerome along with his wife and children became members of Jones Chapel Baptist Church, under Pastor Richard Tuttle.

Jerome leaves to cherish his memory wife of 15 years, Jacqueline James,  mother-in-law Cora Cooke, two sisters, Diane Thompson and Julia Robinson; nine children, Ramon Hamlette(Neco), Jeron Richardson (Renae), Jamar Richardson (Lori), Javonne Richardson (Jarrel), Jerome”JD”, Hamlette II (Shantoya), Ramell Hamlette, Jerome Hamlette, III, (LaShaka), Jacori James, and Jamilette Hamlette; 20 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, devoted friend Ricky Clark (Joy) and John McNeil (Veronica), Russell Curtin (Melody), Brenda Bass whom Poochie would call Esther, and Sherry Henley whom Poochie would call Grady (Brenda and Sherry named him Fred all from the show Sanford and Son lol),  Russell Curtin (Melody) and an inherited daughter Erika Bass and grandchildren Joshua, AnnaMarie and Amelia.
