Jerome's obituary

Jerome (“Jerry”) Breslin of Boynton Beach, Florida died peacefully in his sleep, with his wife Harriett and daughter Nina by his side, on December 18. He was 91.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Harriett Wolfin, his sister Lucille Caine, of Boca Raton, his son Glenn (married to Ellen) Breslin of Lafayette, CA, daughter Jane Jacobs (Howard) of Philadelphia, PA, son Peter Breslin (Liza) of White Plains, NY and daughter Nina Solomon (Scott) of Delray Beach, FL. He is also survived by grandchildren Lee (Becca) and Lauren Jacobs, Jason, Sam, Jacob and Kayla Breslin and Sarah Solomon. A sister, Irene (“Renee”) Fishman and a brother Irwin Breslin predeceased him.

Jerry was born in 1927 in the Bronx, NY to Jenny and Aaron Breslin. He attended Taft High School in the Bronx. When he turned age 18 in February 1945, he enlisted in the Navy toward the end of World War II. He served in Virginia and was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class in August 1946. Jerry then attended NYU on the GI Bill, graduating with a BBA in 1950.

Jerry met the love of his life, Harriett, when she was 15 and he was 18. They fell in love and married in November 1950 after Jerry completed his college degree. They settled first in the Bronx near both sets of parents, and Glenn and Jane were born and lived their early years in the Bronx. In 1958, Harriett and Jerry bought a home in Greenburgh, NY. Peter and Nina were born shortly thereafter and lived in that home for their entire childhoods.

Jerry was a furniture salesman and sales manager. In the 1950s and into the 1960s, he owned and ran stores with his lifelong friends Irving and Leon Rosen in Yonkers and Manhattan. He later worked for the Itkin Bros. office furniture showroom in NYC. When the Itkin’s closed up shop, Jerry ended his career working for Empire Furniture in Manhattan, retiring in 1989. Jerry and Harriett then sold their Greenburgh home and settled in sunny Boynton Beach, FL, where they lived until they moved into assisted living in 2017.

Jerry enjoyed the company of many friends, some of whom he’s known for over 80 years. He loved to watch sports on TV and in person, with friends and family - Knicks, Rangers, Giants and Yankees were his favorites.
