Jeremy's obituary
Jeremy S. Smith, 45, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 30th, with his wife Trevor Kathleen Smith by his bedside.
Jeremy was born to Roy Smith and Brenda Smith (McLean) on March 29, 1976 in Columbus, Ohio. Jeremy, his parents, and his older brother Geoffrey Smith moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois his sophmore year of high school. He graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in 1994 and then went on to graduate from the University of Illinois Chicago with a degree in Geography. He worked at the Village of Palatine for over 20 years in GIS administration.
Although he didn’t know it at the time, Jeremy met his wife-to-be shortly after moving to Crystal Lake. Jeremy and Trevor Kathleen Speechley went on one date in high school, but they decided to just be friends, which they were for many years to come. They reconnected after college and decided to give that dating thing another shot. The couple were married in a civil ceremony on December 7, 2015 at the McHenry County Courthouse amongst family. On January 2, 2016 they held a separate celebration with all of their family and friends at The Abbey in Fontana.
Jeremey and Trevor spent much of their time together listening to music, cooking, going out to enjoy phenomenal food, and laughing constantly. Some of their favorite times were just staying home and spending time with their moody little dog Brody and their gentle giant Murphy; Brody stayed with Jeremy in his bed until he took his last breath, their bond was beyond words.
Jeremy was very intelligent and witty; he could answer almost any trivia question thrown at him and his dry humor would have you laughing until you cried. He was one of the most caring and kind men you could meet, he took care of everyone he loved. He was extremely passionate about music, history, and Walter Payton. He spent numerous hours losing himself in books about history or listening to his extremely large record and cd collections.
Jeremy is survived by his wife Trevor Smith, his mother Brenda Smith (McLean), his brother Geoffrey (Jaime DeGroot) Smith, aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, as well as his loyal companions Brody and Murphy. He was predeceased by his father Roy Smith and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
We request all of Jeremy’s loved ones to join us for a Celebration of his beautiful life at The Quarry Cable Park & Grill, 5517 Northwest Hwy, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 on Tuesday, December 7th as an open house from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers donations to New Directions Addiction Recovery Services would be appreciated. https://www.ndars.org/take-ac…
