Jeremy's obituary

Jeremy Jesse Garcia was born July 5, 1973 and passed away on July 20, 2024 at the age of 51. He is survived by his wife, Quynh Vu and children, Pascal, Milo and Anna of Austin, TX, mother Mary Copeland and step-father Charlie Copeland of Lockhart TX, father Jesse Garcia and step-mother, Carol Garcia of Knoxville, Tennessee, sisters Sharon McLaughlin of San Marcos and Heather Garcia of Pearland, numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Jeremy was a kind and gentle spirit. He was often content with simple things in life, a delicious meal, participating in sports, spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included multi-media technology, especially in regards to organizing music and video. He had interests in most things historical, and enjoyed reading about astronomy. He especially loved playing tennis and cycling and was always excited to travel.

Born in Kingston, Pennsylvania, the family moved to Florida where Jeremy spent the majority of his childhood. His fondest memories of Florida include riding his bike on the beach, and spending time on the family's orange grove. After his parents' divorce, Jeremy moved with his 2 sisters to Austin, TX, where he finished the remainder of his high school years. During his time at Lanier High School, Jeremy was a member of the tennis team, played violin in the orchestra, and graduated in the top 10% of his class.

Jeremy expressed how up until his cancer diagnosis in 2020, his life had been easy for him. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Civil Engineering. Although that was his chosen field of study, his career took him on a different path. Following friends to Dallas, TX he was introduced to computer programming and stayed on that career path for the remainder of his career. He joined a small tech startup company in Austin, TX and played a major role in their growth and success over the years. Jeremy eventually had to stop working due to cancer complications after having spent over 20 years with DQ Asset Acquisitions (formerly DQ Technologies).

Jeremy and his wife, Quynh Vu, whom he met in Austin, TX, were married September 2000, and the kids Pascal Garcia (born 2004), Milo Garcia (born 2007) and Anna Garcia (born 2010), made the family complete. The children adored their father, as he was always there for them from sporting events, to recitals, to injuries, to the major milestones. He made the chaos of raising a family more manageable and always had a funny quip/ joke ready at any time. The children's fondest memories of their dad include going out for Saturday lunches, vacations hiking on the coasts, and time spent playing with stuffed animals and watching tv together. Sharing Quynh's love of travel, Jeremy enjoyed travel to Greece, Italy, France, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico, and most of the states throughout the United States.

After Jeremy's diagnosis of metastatic colon cancer in Aug 2020, life was not so easy anymore. He loved life and was terrified at the prospect of death. He endured multiple hospital stays, multiple operations, multiple radiation treatments, multiple chemotherapy regimens to try to heal himself of the cancer. He tried alternative treatments, holistic medicines, herbal concoctions, a clinical trial, anything that might help. Although he suffered much emotional stress and physical pain, he would put on a brave face, and downplay his suffering for anyone who asked. As the chemotherapy treatments poisoned his body, and the cancer spread, he could no longer do the things he loved most. It was painful to move his body; he could no longer enjoy food. He would say "the cancer took everything from me". The cancer eventually took his life. He died in his home, in hospice in the care of his family. Prior to his death, he was touched to have visits from family and friends far and near so that he was never alone, and always surrounded by love.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 31 at 10 am. The funeral mass will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 10205 N FM 620 #2210, Austin, TX 78726.
