Jeremiah's obituary
Jeremiah Johnson McVickers, 26, of Chicago Heights, Illinois, passed away on January 24, 2026.
Jeremiah grew up in Snellville, Georgia, and moved to Chicago in the spring of 2022 seeking a fresh start and new work opportunities. During his time there, he embraced the experience fully—learning new skills, building meaningful friendships, and even developing a fondness for the snow-filled winters. While in Chicago, Jeremiah also adopted two beloved cats, Dossi and Bo, who were his constant and cherished companions.
Throughout his life, Jeremiah was known as a compassionate and loyal defender of his friends and family. He spent much of his time outdoors, working, hunting, and fishing, and carried a laid-back, go-with-the-flow spirit that allowed him to adapt easily and pick up new skills wherever life took him. Jeremiah was a hugger, famous for his big bear hugs—especially with his siblings. He loved classic country music, video games, and collecting KISS memorabilia, and he always hoped to someday learn to play the ukulele. Though naturally quiet, Jeremiah had a sharp wit and a perfectly timed comeback that never failed to make those closest to him smile.
Jeremiah is survived by his loving mother, Teresa McVickers; his father, Scott McVickers; his grandparents, Paul and Lin Capobianco; his brother, Dalton McVickers; his sister, Colette Herrera; his brother-in-law, Marco Herrera; and his niece and nephew, Valeria and Christopher Herrera.
A memorial service celebrating Jeremiah’s life will be held on Sunday, February 8th, at Flanigan Funeral Home, located at 4400 S. Lee Street, Buford, Georgia 30518.
Visitation will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by the service from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
