Jeremiah's obituary

Jeremiah Lamar Hunt was born on February 23, 2008. In August 2024, at just 16 years old, his life was taken in a brutal home invasion. Around 3:10 p.m., four armed men arrived on his porch and stormed inside, opening fire. Jeremiah was killed in the shooting. His mother, Felicia Hunt, was wounded but survived. She remains deeply traumatized by the loss of her son.

Despite the brutality of the crime—a teenager murdered in his home in broad daylight—there has been little traction in the investigation. Felicia has spoken publicly, mourning her “baby” and pleading for justice.

Jeremiah had recently traveled to Myrtle Beach to visit his cousins. He wasn’t looking for problems—he simply wanted peace. But Jeremiah’s life had been shaped by tragedy. At 13, his father was murdered. That loss sent him spiraling. He began acting out, eventually getting expelled from school after bringing a gun, allegedly with the intent to confront another student.

After his death, the situation took a darker turn when a known gang member, Tyrell Hutchins, leaked disturbing photos of Jeremiah’s body on social media. His sister, Maliyah Hunt, begged him to delete the images:

“This isn’t funny at all! You didn’t even know him like that! Delete this right now—I’m not playing with you.”

Tyrell responded by mocking her and Jeremiah's spelling. Maliyah warned:

“Aight, now when they come get you up out of here, it’s not going to be funny.”

This incident only reinforced suspicions about Tyrell’s involvement. Tyrell had a documented history of conflict with Jeremiah. Their beef began after Jeremiah fought one of Tyrell’s cousins. From there, Tyrell repeatedly threatened Jeremiah’s life—sending him photos posing with firearms and telling others he would "get back" at him. Felicia Hunt confirmed that her son was frequently harassed by Tyrell.

Tyrell is currently being charged with the murder of Keyon Johnson, Jeremiah’s cousin and a known member of the Str8Up gang. Another victim, Darius Hunt—Jeremiah’s brother—was killed as an innocent bystander in the same incident. Despite Tyrell’s threats and history with Jeremiah, he has not been charged in this murder. Jeremiah also had conflict with a group known as YDC (Young Dream Chasers)—originally a harmless social squad that turned into a gang under Tyrell’s leadership. Members included Tyrell (21) and a young teen named Aiden Whiteside, also known as Swervo (14). Aiden and Jeremiah were once close. They hung out regularly, and Aiden briefly dated Jeremiah’s sister, Maliyah. After their breakup, tension rose. Jeremiah didn’t like the way Aiden spoke about Maliyah, and the two began arguing. At one point, things got ugly—false rumors, social media harassment, and even accusations were thrown around. Many believe Tyrell played a role in escalating the drama, using Aiden’s name to add fuel to the fire. But here’s the truth:

Before Jeremiah’s death, he and Aiden made up. Despite everything that had happened between them—teen drama, online beef, and outside influence—they reconciled. The two began speaking again, and those close to them said it looked like they were rebuilding their friendship.

Most importantly, Aiden was not involved in Jeremiah’s death. He had no part in the shooting and should not be seen as a suspect. Like many young people, Aiden got caught up in drama he didn’t fully understand. By the time they reconciled, it seemed both boys were trying to move forward. Jeremiah Hunt’s story is a heartbreaking reflection of a larger reality—how generational trauma, community violence, and a lack of protection fail our youth. Jeremiah made mistakes, like any teen, but he was trying. He was rebuilding bridges. He didn’t deserve to die.

The fact that Tyrell Hutchins, who has ties to two other murders and a long-standing beef with Jeremiah, has not been charged raises serious questions. His involvement, history of threats, and reckless behavior online should make him the primary focus of the investigation.

Jeremiah’s family, especially his mother and sister, deserve justice. His life mattered. His story should not be forgotten, and neither should the truth.
