Jeremiah's obituary
Jeremiah John Collins, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on June 27th, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering family dedication. Born on December 7th, 1942, in Manhattan, NY, Jerry lived a life defined by his profound commitment to those he loved most.
At the heart of Jerry's world was his beloved wife Marion Collins, his partner of 58 remarkable years. Together, they raised four children - David Collins (Wendy), Lisa Montesi, Kristen Starrett (Troy), and Shannon Keough (Brendan) - and nurtured 13 grandchildren: Tyler, Riley, Kelsey, Nicole, Daniel, Ashley, Thomas, Alexandar, Jacob, Kailee, McKenzie, Jameson, and Boden. Jerry's approach to family was simple yet profound: unconditional love, endless support, and creating cherished memories through family trips, holiday traditions, and always ensuring a perfect Christmas tree.
A brilliant engineer with a remarkable 45-year career, Jerry worked on iconic projects like the World Trade Center, demonstrating an exceptional work ethic and intellectual curiosity. When not immersed in his professional pursuits, Jerry was an avid sports enthusiast who found great joy in playing handball, racquetball, skiing, and basketball - activities that reflected his energetic spirit and love for staying active. Yet, his most significant achievements were not professional accolades or athletic pursuits, but the lives he touched and the family he lovingly cultivated. In retirement, he found joy in continuous learning, reading, and spending time with his cherished family.
Jerry was predeceased by his father, Cornelius Francis Jr, his mother Veronica, and his two sisters, Cornelia and Maureen. He is survived by his extended family, including nieces and nephews Melanie Barney, Jason Jacobs, and Cordelia Nemeyer.
A funeral service honoring Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Church of St. John in East Stroudsburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation and Regis High School (55 E 84th St, New York, NY 10028), reflecting Jerry's commitment to research and education.
