Jered's obituary
In his 38 years, it is safe to say Jered broke many hearts, repaired countless motorcycles, and went through dozens of shakers of Everglades seasoning. He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Diane and Michael Whealton and raised in Port St. Lucie, Florida where he attended Village Green Elementary and Lincoln Park Academy. He had a half sleeve of tattoos before he graduated LPA and during his time there he excelled in soccer, track and field, surfing, driving and riding fast, skipping school, and being extremely stylish and charming, even to faculty. Jered wasn’t the greatest student at LPA, but his curly hair and charisma moved him through just fine; while there, he made incredible bonds with many people, connections that are just as strong today. It seemed that Jered was reserving his scholastic energy for higher education because following high school he attended the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando, Florida, and graduated from the Harley Davidson program at the top of his class.
Jered worked as a master technician for Harley Davidson in Florida and the Carolinas for 15 years before forging a new path with long time friend, Dustin Farthing at Mountain Motorsports in Georgia and, finally, Speed Zone Motorsports in Alabama. He was passionate about the motorsports industry and it returned his service with awesome friendships and cross-country adventures. During these years, Jered extended his family through those relationships and, of course, through love.
Jered met and married Amanda Ludlum while working for Harley Davidson in South Carolina and on October 12, 2014, they became parents to their son Killian Fenner Whealton. Jered spent over five years watching his legacy grow in Killian and Killian showed him every day that he has the same sense of adventure, independence, and stubbornness that will serve him as well in life as it did for Jered. The Whealton household was never dull; Jered and Amanda both loved music, cooking, and encouraging their son to be a kid - wild and free. Along with his two-legged loves, his four-legged, Gunner, Wally, and especially his “Princess” Makenzie were always there for Jered and Killian to hang on to. Jered had various hobbies, all of which he never took too seriously, but was annoyingly good at: golf, fishing, MMA, and cooking were at the top of his list.
He had an incredible memory and could pipe in on most conversations, dishing out facts, or at least a little insight. He kept good company at all times; his friends all being slightly different but equally resilient, interesting, and crazy enough to keep up with him. His love for his mother was boundless and from childhood to adulthood, Jered loved and was loved by his mother in a way only they could understand; a love that soothed the pain and hid the scariness cancer brought to their lives.
Jered was pre-deceased by his father, Michael Whealton, and survived by his son, Killian Whealton; wife, Amanda Whealton; mother and step father, Diane and Bill Shisler of Pisgah Forest, NC; sister and brother-in-law, Chelsea and Justin Glasscock of Knoxville, TN; half-brother, John Whealton of Stuart, FL; aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends all over the country.
Jered was no BS and would have been annoyed with reading an obit for such a young person without knowing the cause of death. Jered’s life was ended far too early from stage IV melanoma. He never wanted anyone to fuss over him, so his family and friends will come together to spread his ashes in the ocean when time and restrictions permit.
