Jennifer's obituary
It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Jennifer Lynne Muller on May 22, 2025. Jen was born and raised in Ottawa, where she enjoyed an idyllic childhood, riding her banana bike, jazz dancing, figure skating and playing the saxophone. After graduating from University of Waterloo with a degree in Civil Engineering, she moved to London, Ontario, in 1997, to launch a successful and rewarding 27-year career in sales and marketing of water treatment equipment and services.
In 2007, Jen’s job, along with her courage and adventurous spirit, brought her to settle in San Diego, California, where she met the love of her life, Kent Zapata, who became her husband, her travel and dance partner, and her favourite plus-one at sporting events.
Together they adopted the best dog in the world, Sydney, who brought so much joy into their lives. The three travelled around the U.S.— including a four-month RV trek through the western United States. Along their journey, they fell in love with and settled in Montana in 2018, where they fueled their shared passions for hiking, biking, fishing, skiing and the occasional rodeo. It is here that Jen spent her last days enjoying the stunning mountain scapes outside their window.
Jen is survived by her husband Kent, her partner in love and life, and his children, Joe, Chase and Max, her parents, Pat and Joe, brothers Jeff (Anne-Marie) and Greg (Hailey), and a large extended family. She was a loving daughter, niece and cousin, and a doting Auntie Jay to Raphael, Justin, Brody, Wesley, Jeremy and Baby M (due in November). She was also an extraordinary friend to so many, including a tight-knit group of lifelong friends who will be forever inspired by her incredible positivity and her impeccable senses of humour and style.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the charities that were meaningful to Jen: Melanoma Research Foundation or Melanoma Canada; Women in Engineering at the University Waterloo (please direct your donation to Engineering Outreach - Women in Engineering, under ‘other fund’ option); Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter.
A celebration of Jen’s life will take place at a later date.
