Jennifer's obituary

Jennifer Molpus Hurley gained her angel wings on July 27, 2021. She lost her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, and her beloved husband was by her side.

Jennifer was born on July 17, 1951 in Meridian, Mississippi to Thomas and Lucille Molpus. She attended Clarkdale High School and graduated from Meridian High School, where she was a majorette and clarinetist in the band. After graduation, she attended East Mississippi Junior College, where she continued as a majorette. She studied drama and played the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. Jennifer was a member of the Lionette Dance Team, Delta Psi Omega Dramatics Fraternity, and she was recognized on campus as a college sweetheart.

On a blind date the summer before college, she met the love of her life, John Adair Hurley. They were married on August 29, 1970. The pair made their home in Jackson, Mississippi, where they had two children: Kristin Hurley Layman and John Adair Hurley. Jennifer enjoyed raising her children, being active in her church, and taking part in her children’s activities.

Jennifer also enjoyed a robust career. She was a top seller of Longaberger baskets and was even invited to speak at an annual conference to showcase her talents and demonstrate a favorite broccoli salad recipe on stage. Soon thereafter, she began a career in hotel sales. She started as an assistant at Cabot Lodge but quickly became the best sales director in the area. Jennifer won numerous accolades during her career. She took great pride in winning the Governor’s Award for the Metro Jackson Convention and the Visitors Bureau Hometown Hero Award. She was an active ambassador for the Metro Jackson Chamber of Commerce and loved serving the great city of Jackson.

Jennifer is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lucille Molpus. She is survived by her husband, John Adair Hurley; her daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Kip Layman of Atlanta, Georgia; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Rachel Hurley of Diamondhead, Mississippi; her four grandchildren who she loved dearly, Landon, Brooke, Harper, and Connor Layman; her sister, Barbara Wilkes; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Shelia Molpus; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jolene and Grady Coble; her nieces and nephews; and many much-loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jennifer lived her life true to her motto: “Go, share, love.” She will be remembered for her wonderful laughter and infectious smile. She was considered the “life of the party” and was always singing and dancing. She had a strong love for Jesus, and we know she is dancing with Him.

A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held in the chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison, Mississippi on Monday, September 20 at 10:00 AM. It was Jennifer’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of a charitable donation to her beloved church at https://www.broadmoor.org/give.
