Jeff was a beloved member of the District 2 MA fellowship, bringing fun and joy to others in recovery and also being very responsible when taking on important service positions. It was no surprise that Jeff, the nature lover, joined us for a weekend camping trip to Samuel P. Taylor State Park in July 2012. In May 2015 he was a District 2 representative/delegate at the World Services business conference in Los Angeles. Around the same time Jeff volunteered to be one of the District 2 convention co-chairs, taking on many responsibilities. For a chili cook-off fundraiser, he showed up with an incredibly meaty and spicy batch of chili that was a big hit. He clearly enjoyed sharing his passion for good chili with his friends! Jeff also organized a picnic fundraiser at Lake Temescal that summer. Just before the convention in February 2016, he led the transportation subcommittee that arranged rides for those in need & he helped make sure the Sunday night post-convention Ocean Beach Bonfire was a success. Before moving back to Ione, he was diligently doing service as the district’s chips & literature chairperson.
We are terribly saddened that Jeff left this world so soon and are praying for his family. We will always remember his laugh and soft smile. He was quick to find humor in so many things and was incredibly kind and thoughtful. He will be missed by his many friends in the East Bay.

I met Jeff in 2016 when I was living with Anina at the “Holly Hill House”. I didn’t know him very well, only as a coworker of Anina’s at REI. Anina was always the wallflower of the bunch; beautiful and sweet with so much to offer, yet reserved and delicate in the way she presented herself. I remember pestering her about how she should get out there and show off her goods to the world- as any good single roommate would do. Later, I started to hear about her friend Jeff. I knew that he was something different in how she slipped him into our house conversations. It seemed as though he was always on her mind. So one day she brought him over to hang with the crew. The way she glowed sitting next to him on the couch when he touched her hand was unmistakable. I knew then that this was not just a coworker. When he left I asked Anina if she had feelings for this guy. Her face got pink and she admitted with a smile that she “might”. The rest is history, as they say.
The more time they spent together, the more I watched Anina begin to carry herself with more confidence, self assuredness, and joy. Their love story is one that I mostly saw from one side, but I will be forever grateful to Jeff for showing my dear friend how beautiful, capable, and sexy she really is! Jeff brought out the freedom in Anina, and I will always be thankful to him for that. He has also given her two beautiful daughters that will continue his legacy of love, patience, and nurturing to those around them. Jeff, you changed our lives for the better. You are forever in our hearts.

I’m so sorry to learn of Jeff’s death. I met Jeff at an MA convention about 10-12 years ago (I think in Portland). We chatted, shared sober stories, and talked history. He was so fun, funny, kind, and joyful. We stayed in touch to cheer on one another’s sober milestones and I’m so grateful our paths intersected.
Sending so much love to his family and loved ones at this sad time.

Hi Anina. I plan to come to Ione in November. Let me know if I can help or contribute in any way. Jeff was a love. Always encouraging, and knowing how to push me beyond what I thought I could do. He had the best laugh! My heart is breaking for you and your family. Please know that you're in my thoughts. Sending love and hugs to you. Jill
