Jeffrey “Jeff” Aaron Thorne, 53, went to meet his heavenly father on December 9th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jeff was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer in February 2025. True to the courage and determination that defined him throughout his life, he fought a brave and relentless battle. Born on March 12th, 1972, in Normal, Illinois, Jeff later planted roots in Naperville, Illinois, where he built a life filled with faith, family, and meaningful relationships.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Joanna (Martin, of Pekin, Illinois (51)); his beloved children, Payton (24), Noelle (22), and Lauren (20); his parents, John and Kathie Thorne; his sister, Stacey Siambekos and many more extended family members and friends.

Inspired by his father, Jeff played football from a young age and excelled throughout high school as a stand-out 3 sport All State athlete, leading to his induction into the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Hall of Fame. He then went on to be a 4 year starting quarterback at Eastern Illinois University, where he earned his degree in 1994. His time on the field ignited a lifelong passion for the sport—one that would guide his calling as a coach, mentor, and role model.

Most importantly, he met the love of his life, Joanna, at EIU in the fall of 1992. Jeff and Joanna shared a beautiful marriage for 28 years filled with many fun and joyful memories. Their love was an inspiration to many, showing the fruitfulness that comes from keeping Christ as the foundation of your relationship.

Jeff dedicated his career to shaping young athletes not only as football players but as men of faith, integrity, and character—followers of Christ, All-American husbands, All-American fathers and respectful, contributing community members. He began his time at North Central College as the offensive coordinator in 2002, was promoted to assistant head coach in 2010, and in 2015 became the 25th head coach in program history, succeeding his father, John Thorne. Jeff was the ultimate competitor and a National Championship winning football coach. In 2022, he served as offensive coordinator at Western Michigan University, continuing to inspire players with his commitment to excellence. Most recently, he applied his leadership and passion for teamwork in his sales role at GoRout. This fall, he was honored with induction into the North Central College Athletics Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to his enduring impact on the program and its players.

Jeff was an excellent recruiter. Known for his passion, wisdom, and guidance, he touched countless lives and left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to interact with him. He was persistently bold in his faith and always stood firm in his beliefs. He led with class, reached people of all walks of life, and will leave a legacy that will last for countless years to come.

Above all else, his wife and kids gave him the most joy, and he made sure they knew how treasured and loved they were. To him, being a father and husband was the greatest blessing of his life.

Jeff was committed to healing and battled every step of the way, although it was grueling, he kept the faith and never lost hope. His energy, enthusiasm and magnetic personality will be missed tremendously by his family and all who knew him, as he is simply irreplaceable.

Visitation and Funeral Service

Tuesday, 12/16, the wake/visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. - Calvary Chapel, enter through Door 7.

Wednesday, 12/17, visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service open to the public starting at 12:00 p.m. - Calvary Fellowship Hall, enter through Door 1.

Both services will be held at Calvary Church, 9S200 Route 59, Naperville, Illinois 60564.

Memorial contributions to support the family are appreciated, a portion of the proceeds will be directed to a Jeff Thorne Memorial Fund which will be restricted for tributes in his honor. The family also plans to contribute to various organizations serving cancer patients seeking integrative cancer treatments that are not covered by medical insurance.
