Jeffrey's obituary
Jeffrey Carl Lettow was born July 25, 1957, in Lancaster, CA to Larry and Roene Lettow. He spent most of his childhood in Cocoa Beach, FL, moving to Tustin, CA in 1973.
For almost 40 years, Pastor Jeff Lettow faithfully served the members of First Baptist Church of Lemon Grove and the surrounding community. Jeff earned a BA in political science from UCLA and a Master of Divinity from Talbot Seminary. After seminary, he served as a missionary in Mexico City for a year, where he met his wife, Crystal. They married in September of 1983 and in November of that year, Jeff was hired as associate pastor at FBCLG, becoming senior pastor in 1988.
Pastor Jeff was a servant to all and demonstrated his love to the Lemon Grove community in many ways. He helped establish the Lemon Grove Clergy Association, participated and spearheaded the Good Friday Cross Walk, served with Lemon Grove Heal Zone, volunteered in the elementary schools helping children with their reading, and was always supportive of community events.
Jeff was involved in Southern Baptist Associational work both locally, holding the office of moderator and other positions, as well as at the state level, serving on the executive board various times. A strong supporter of missions, Jeff led FBCLG in Migrant ministries, Mexico and Africa missions, as well as encouraging others, young and old, to participate in Mission work.
Jeff was an avid reader and a collector of books and pens. He loved traveling and snorkeling, especially in Hawaii with friends and family. He loved reading travel books which transported him to places all around the world. He enjoyed sports and loved teasing his friends over the competition. He had a talent for giving nicknames to those he knew and loved.
The legacy left by Jeff Lettow is one of faithfulness, service, and joy. Jeff loved God and people and he leaves behind an immense void in the lives of all who knew him. His whole life was an act of ministry, emulating Christ to all he met. He touched lives throughout the world because he understood what it meant to be in relationship with people.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Lettow, son Jarrett Lettow (Erica), daughter Hope Lettow, daughter Ashlyn Casper (Matthew), grandchildren Jett and London Lettow, and Paxton and Emmett Casper. He is predeceased by his mother Roene Lettow, survived by his father, Larry Lettow, his brother, David Lettow (Rhonda), along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
