Jeffrey's obituary

Jeffrey Paul Bergfield

Jeffrey P. Bergfield peacefully departed this life on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in Oro Valley, Arizona. He will be profoundly missed by his beloved wife, Judith Bergfield; his sons, Justin (Kaitlin) and Matthew (Beth) Bergfield; and his cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Kai, Henry, and Jack Bergfield.

Jeff was born on September 17, 1944, in Waukegan, Illinois, the only child of Philip and Marydelle Bergfield. His formative years were marked by extensive travel, and he often reminisced with fondness about his time in Portugal, Argentina, Israel, and Switzerland, among others.

In 1966, Jeff met the love of his life, Judi, in Pasadena, California. After a two-week whirlwind romance they were married, and their union lasted a remarkable 58 years. They settled in Silver Bell, Arizona, where Jeff enjoyed work as an electrician at ASARCO Silver Bell Mine and discovered a passion for riding motorcycles in the desert. His lifelong enthusiasm for adventure and his love of dirt bikes and motorcycles would later provide joyful bonding experiences with his sons and become a source of amusement (and occasional concern) for his family.

During his time in Silver Bell, Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree with honors in Business Administration from the University of Arizona, and their sons were born in Tucson. In 1982, the family relocated to San Diego, California, where Jeff worked at General Dynamics, enjoying frequent weekend trips with his young sons to the beaches, arcades, and mountains. In 1994, the family returned to Tucson, where Jeff concluded his distinguished career at Raytheon Technologies.

Jeff and Judi spent their retirement years traveling, visiting family, volunteering at local wildlife rescues, and riding motorcycles with friends. In his later years, Jeff embraced his wife’s passion for bird watching and found joy in the companionship of several pet parakeets and lovebirds.

Jeff is remembered for his adventurous spirit, keen intellect, no-nonsense demeanor, and above all else for his profound love and devotion for his family. He will be deeply missed.

Services will be private. The family kindly requests that those who wish to express sympathy consider making a donation to The Oasis Sanctuary in Benson, Arizona, or to the Tucson Wildlife Center where Jeff and Judi frequently volunteered their time.
