Jeffrey's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Joseph “Jeff” Benavidez, who passed away on March 4, 2026.
Jeff was a proud graduate of Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he distinguished himself as a talented quarterback on the football team. His leadership on the field reflected the determination, strength, and loyalty that defined him throughout his life.
Jeff dedicated 47 years of his life as an Iron Worker with Local Union 66, building a respected career and lifelong brotherhood within the labor community. From 1999 to 2011, he served as Business Manager of Iron Workers Local Union 66, advocating tirelessly for the workers he represented and leading with integrity and commitment. His dedication to the labor movement extended beyond the union, as he also served as Past President of the San Antonio Chapter of the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, where he worked to support and advance opportunities for Latino workers in the community.
Outside of his work, Jeff was known for his loyalty as a friend and the relationships he maintained over a lifetime. He loved spending time on the golf course and enjoying the routines that brought him happiness. In recent years, he was a familiar and welcomed regular at Black Bear Diner, where he enjoyed good food and conversation.
Jeff also cherished visits to Lockhart, Texas, the place of his birth. One of his favorite traditions was making trips with his daughter to enjoy barbecue at Smitty’s Market, moments that became treasured memories filled with laughter and time together.
Jeff will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his leadership, his loyalty to friends, and the love he shared with those closest to him.
Jeff is survived by his daughter, Mia Benavidez; his siblings, Amanda Vasquez (Robert) and John Benavidez (Kathie); as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan C. Benavidez and Mary Alice Benavidez.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Jeff’s dear friend, Jesus "Toro" Martinez, for his friendship and assistance in helping organize services during this difficult time. The family also wishes to express sincere gratitude to Attorney Charlie P. Jones for his guidance and support, and to all who have offered condolences, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time
A Rosary will be held at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 12:00 p.m., on March 17, 2026, at San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, Texas.
Jeff’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the love he shared with his family.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.
