Jeff's obituary
Jeffrey S. Allar, 60, passed away at his home on April 1, 2023, surrounded by family.
On May 25, 1962, Jeff was born to John “Jack” Allar and Needa (Smith) Allar in Miami, FL. When he was young, the family moved to Lindenhurst, NY, where Jeff attended school from kindergarten through his graduation from Lindenhurst High School. In September 1981, he enlisted in the US Army where he trained as an Airborne Ranger in the 2/75th Ranger battalion. Not long after, Jeff applied to the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY. Of 400 active-duty applicants, he was among the ten percent awarded an appointment to West Point, and he graduated from the academy in 1987.
Shortly after, Jeff transitioned to the US Army Reserve (he was honorably discharged from the USAR in 1998) and pivoted to work in the pharmaceutical industry. Jeff excelled in his new career due to his ability to lead and his commitment to boost morale through activities such as Halloween costume contests and chili cookoffs. However, Jeff didn’t just motivate through office-wide activities; it was also important to him to regularly connect with the people he was leading. He was part of the team, and he did his best to make sure they knew it. He retired in December 2021 from his role as Vice President of Manufacturing Operations at Bayer.
Some of Jeff’s lesser-known accomplishments include a starring role in “Allar-Trek” and being crowned the unofficial Trivial Pursuit champion.
During his down time, Jeff enjoyed boating, golfing, hitting the slopes, cooking for his family, attending Army football games, keeping up with the Star Wars franchise, vacationing at Disney, and trying new coffees in search of that perfect cup.
For those of us lucky enough to be a part of Jeff’s circle, he wore many hats; protector, trusted advisor, fearless leader, humorous friend. Perhaps his greatest quality was the one hidden beneath his tough exterior; his kind and generous heart. Jeff wouldn’t think twice before handing a $20 bill to someone less fortunate on a city street, changing a stranger’s tire in a parking lot, or simply stopping to help a turtle safely cross the road.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Rios; his children, Sabrina Allar, Jeffrey Allar, John Allar, Mary-Lynn Allar and her husband Andrew Nottage; his mother, Needa Allar; his sister, Loretta Allar; his grandson, Finn Nottage; his niece and nephew, Kristen Pennell and Cory Pappalardo; his stepmother, Susan Allar; and many extended family members and friends.
At Jeff's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. His immediate family will celebrate his life privately at a future date.
